This One's for The Girls

A lot has been said about Girls Night Out (Come on, even 17-year old Miley Cyrus is singing about girlfriend power “Let’s go GNO, let’s go it’s a girls night…”) but the truth is…as fun as it is to get all dolled up and paint the town red, sometimes the best kind of night with the girls is the one when we actually do not go out and our main agenda is to simply be together and laugh. So gather round the girls, it’s a Girls Night IN…

WHAT: Movie Night


WHO: The Girls (My LLFs)


WHEN: Pick a day when everybody’s free (Ours was last Thursday night)


WHERE: Chez Paulyn


WHY: Simply because we’re fab and we deserve a little girl time

A week before:

The food assignments have been made. We’re all thinking the same thing – our love/hate relationship with carbs! Think of the two major food groups for nights like these – sweet (chocolate) and salty (chips). Aside from grocery shopping and cooking, there is also a lot of personal preparation involved before this night of indulgence - think running that extra mile or skipping that daily can of Coke. We girls do not do anything halfway, if we're gonna eat, we're so gonna EAT.

Finally…it’s time to bring out the carbs!!! Bring. It. On. You’ll definitely know everybody’s ready to pig out just by looking at the outfits of choice – caftans, loose dresses and boyfriend button downs.

MENU:

Assorted chips with mango and avocado salsa

Hors d’oeuvres from that wonderful hotel across Greenbelt called New World

Lobster pasta (Paulyn, this was killer!)


Spaghetti with anchovy sauce (Kudos to DM, under the tutelage of Sra. Liamzon)


Salmon baked in foil (We definitely need the omega-3 fatty acids to counter everything else on the menu)
And don't forget to dial 887-8888 for some KFC...We're going all the way, Baby!!!

Usually sangria is our best friend (2 jarras isn't enough for this posse), but for that night those alcohol-infused fruits were just not enough for dessert...

When there was simply no more room in our tummies (it was so aptly put - "If we rest for 10 minutes, we're going to feel how full we really are, so let's just keep on going...") it was time to pop in the movie and plop down in front of the TV. The lights were dimmed, blankets and pillows were passed around, and everybody got all comfy in their respective spots.

MOVIE: It's Complicated

Hilarious. The role was made for Alec Baldwin - he is so the new face of Dirty Old Men. We will forever love love love THE Meryl Streep. Very subtly lovable was Steve Martin. And Lake Bell? Just the sight of her made me feel the pounds creeping in. But all in all, the perfect choice for our GNI. 

Truth is, we all need a time out, a day off…when we don’t need to worry about concealer or mascara, when we give our footsies a break and embrace the reality that we are only 5’3 ½” (Even Posh understands how important That Extra Half an Inch is - Must I remind you, she did snag Becks), and when we give counting calories a rest. So let’s give ourselves a break, sometimes girls really just wanna have fun. Hail to Cyndi Lauper. She got it. - KAB
